The Brief:
Create motion graphics to accompany one of your band's songs; minimum length 15 seconds, target length 210 seconds.

Chosen Song

London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared, and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
Except for the ring of that truncheon thing

The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it brother, you can go it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out, and draw another breath
London calling, and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking, I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river

The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river

Now get this...
London calling, yes, I was there too
And you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London calling...

I never felt so much alike alike alike alike...
Messages of anti-racism, anti-capitalism and anti-fascism.

LinkedIn Learning

I started watching the essentials training on After Effects on LinkedIn Learning and took some notes of key definitions. Even though the videos are broken down really well I struggled to take anything in and wasn't really getting much from it.

YouTube

I went to YouTube hoping to get some better tutorials and found out the functions of After Effects are actually very similar to Premier Pro which I have used before. Now I need to figure out what I actually want to create so I can get started in the programme.
I followed the above video and did a few quick little experiments to get back into the features and tools accessible on After Effects.

Moodboard

I made moodboards of London and relevant lyrics to the song to give me directions on what I want to visualise in the video.

Initial Ideas

Eye Animation

Storyboards

I worked out the timelines of the video and planned out what would appear when.

Assests

I made all the assets I knew I needed for the video in Illustrator so I had a base to start with.

Legs Animation

No matter how many tutorials I watched explaining the process of animating legs, I couldn't get it to look like what I envisioned. I decided to take it back to basics with a talking skull which was one of the first ideas I had.

Basic Plan

This was the start of the making of the animation. I was getting really frustrated with this as each time I added a new element it seemed to mess with the positioning or timing of something else. The next stage was adding lyrics and effects to the background.

Feedback & Reflection

After receiving feedback and guidance on where to take the project, it was clear I wasn't happy with what I was producing and decided to take a step back and return to what I created within the 3D project. I'm going to use stop motion with added animation and my felting creations to make the final video.
