The Brief:
Explore a number of different approaches to create a band mark/ logo for the given band name: Narrow Dragons. Present the final band mark/ logo alongside additional merchandise ideas.

After some initial research into logos and music genres, I decided on punk rock for my band. I feel like it fits well with the band name and allows me to get quite messy and creative with the design.

Font Creation

Made a quick font in the scribble style I had been testing out at the beginning of the project. It doesn't work with thin strokes but increasing the width did have a somewhat positive outcome.

A mixture of font styles explored for my band name.

Took these into Illustrator and gained some successful logotypes but I needed to move on to new ideas. They were something I knew I could fall back on.

Ink Creations

Wanted to get messy with this project so started throwing ink around in the letterforms of my band name. These worked well and I think have potential for some final outcomes.

Letter Block Printing

The band name presented with the original letters from how they had printed.

The band name presented with the letters cleaned and filled using the close stamp.

I didn't like the different typefaces within the prints so rearranged in the sans serif font.

The block printed letters took into Illustrator using image trace.

Changes & Improvements

Upon discussion, I realised the thinner monogram against the bolder logotype didn't work well and the icon in the background lost its meaning being too rounded.

Picture
Used the thicker letter 'D' I'd made in the ink with the narrow 'N' and experimented with colour variation to get a greater contrast.
Picture
Tried using the block printed letters to gain fluency across the monogram and logotype. This works better with two colours involved but still works by outlining the 'N' to separate the letters.

Picture
Needed the monogram style to match the block printing style.

Experimented with another font style inspired from the thumbnails above. Looked more like a snakes tail over dragon and didn't have much effect with digitalised.
Picture
Experimented digitally and didn't really like it, looked more like a flame/ smoke line over a tail.

Picture
I wanted to experiment with different placements so the logo didn't simply look placed onto the merch. I think the enlarged one has potential to work.

Screenprinting Prep

I had to separate the different elements of the design so the screens could be made.

I'm really happy with how these turned out and seeing the design on actual products.
