The Brief:
Create an 8 page book outlining the lyrics of a chosen song (Good Technology - Red Guitars).

Style Inspiration

Barbara Kruger

David Carson

After listening to the song and noting the underlying sarcastic tones, I knew I wanted to represent this in the style of the book itself. A postmodern, grunge route that was chaotic but still legible was the route I wanted to go down.

Initial Ideas

Design One Base

Didn't like the colour combination of the green and red, represented a Christmas colour scheme.

Design Two Base

Black and red seemed to work successfully, providing a stronger base.

The above design is a representation of what would have been my finial book. However, when looking back on it, the white background wasn't supporting the other elements. The simple addition of an ink texture on a low opacity was enough to fill the negative space and complete the design successfully.

Feedback

My book was successful in communicating the message I set out to portray. The main criticism I got was that it started to get quite predictable as the pages progressed because the colours and style remained the same. I want to experiment with different layouts and see if these become more effective.
