We were shown a bunch of spreads and discussed how the layout could be broken down.

I then collected some magazines and broke down the layout and grids contained in them. This helped me understand different compositions and techniques for designing a magazine.

Image Assets

These are the images that were given to us.
There are the images that I found.
These are the images I generated using AI.

With the Addition of Image

Too generic, everyone generated a layout similar to this.
Didn't hate but the split image wasn't overly effective.
Liked the composition but the image wasn't right, looked like a video game.
Too obvious and dull.

Different approach but wasn't the kind of magazine I wanted to create.
Really liked the layout for this, one of the most successful.
Less text and a bigger header experiments.

Another one of the stronger outcomes, simple and a lot of negative space.

Turn Pages

Started randomly placing image and text, too overcrowded.
Still too busy.

Liked the image across the bottom, text too overpowering.
Looked like a page about marbles.

Layout looked too similar to a newspaper.

Most successful layout, wasn't sure with the image being Earth.
Changed the image to Mars to fit the theme more effectively.
Different style, worked quite well.

Similar to above, linking to splash pages.

Front Cover

I used AI to gather a collection of images for the front cover. The main idea was for an astronauts hand to be the main focus of the cover with the masthead above.
